The Revised List:
Characteristics of a Godly Husband

At the end of the day, I think what we as Christian single women want most in a husband is as simple as Micah Stampley has stated in his song “Yes”.

However, our requirements list is not always aligned with what we say we want. After reading When Love’s In View, I was inspired to ditch my old dating requirements list which I had mentally prepared and develop a more meaningful list of requirements my ideal husband must possess.

Yes, we all have them so why not develop it into something that can really help us make better selections for a marriage partner and help build a solid foundation a for a good Christian marriage?

None of that tall, dark and handsome or college degreed professional with both a luxury home and car, those physical characteristics are meaningless when it comes to building a solid Christian marriage.

The goal of this list is to identify characteristics that will actually help to cultivate a healthy Christian marriage. Below are the qualities and characteristics I want my husband to possess.

Honorable Christian man with a thriving relationship with Christ
Respectful as well as respectable
Prophet, Priest, Provider & Protector of his home
Secure in his masculinity, yet sensitive to God’s Spirit
Loves God, me, our children and our families (in that order) with his whole heart unconditionally
Does not regard divorce as an acceptable option & behaves in a way that honors this belief
Regards God’s Word as authoritative and applies it to daily living
Patient, kind and slow to anger
Seeks God’s guidance before acting, spending & setting priorities (a prayerful heart)
Strives to be like Christ is all his pursuits (Godly leader)

It is my prayer that this list is aligned with God's will for my life. If there is anything that is not aligned I ask that He remove it and open my heart to His will. I also ask that He molds me into the wife that He would have me to be to partner with the husband He has created just for me.

Use this as a guide to develop your own list of characteristics and be sure to include Biblical qualities that will help you choose a spouse with whom you can build a solid Christian marriage with for years to come.
