What is the most destructive enemy in your life? No, it’s not some person who has wronged you but rather what you allow that wrong to do to you. We have talked about how offensiveness is often the bait Satan uses to trap you into a world of bitterness. However, offense is only a close second to the #1 most destructive enemy in your life and that is insecurity.
I never thought of this until I read Beth Moore’s book, “So Long Insecurity”. God has given us freedom but we allow our thoughts to keep us in bondage. The root of many of the problems we face can be traced back to some area of insecurity in our lives.
The truth is none of us seem to have figured out a way to escape this type of self-sabotage. God tells us…
We are His workmanship created for good works (Ephesians 2:10)
He has great plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11)
He will freely give us all things (Romans 8:32)
Yet we tell ourselves…
I can’t do anything right
I could never accomplish such great things
There is no way someone like me could ever have something like that
This is why we must find our value in Christ.
Beth encourages us to understand the difference between
humility (a godly trait) and insecurity (an
ungodly trait).
We cannot go through life looking for people to affirm us and expect to
live victoriously. God has already affirmed us, chosen us and redeemed
us.
We already possess the value we long for because we have it in
Christ.
(2 Corinthians 3:4-6)
Desiring to have more, to do more, to be more, to be married, etc. is not a bad thing but when we cannot find joy without these things it becomes a problem. When you believe that if you only had that one thing, then everything else of value would be added to you, then you fail to realize Christ is your all in all. In Him is everything we need. (Matt 6:33)
Beth recommends starting your day declaring, “This is who you are Lord and this is who I am. And this day I have all the security and value I need.” She also advises not to give our security away. Don’t allow conflict, hurt feelings, etc. to rob you of your security. Whisper to yourself, “My security is mine and you cannot have it. God gave it to me and no one gets to take it away from me.”
True security has nothing to do with how we perform or look on any given day. It is an awareness that nothing can make us less valuable. From this day forward, may you walk in your God-given security!
