Wouldn’t you know it, as soon as you finally get the latest shoe another shoe trend or must have shoe for the season is announced. If it’s not a new hot style, it’s a new color. Often times, when the new shoe finally becomes affordable (or at least goes on sale) we’re at the end of the season and guess what, we’re behind the latest fashion trend once again.

At some point, even the greatest fashionistas among us must grow tired of playing this game every few months. If only there was a fabulous shoe suitable for any season, any outfit or any occasion. There really is a shoe that is not only a Must Have for any season, but a Must Have for life – JESUS CHRIST.

Everyday Shoes

Remember old classic television shows like Little House on the Prairie and The Walton’s? These shows are probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of shoe fashions, but they had one thing in common as it relates to shoes – the characters only had two pair.

They had their everyday (or school) shoes and their church shoes. Many of us are so fortunate that the concept of only two pairs of shoes is foreign to us. However, even with the plethora of shoes we now possess, there is still one pair of shoes we should wear daily - PRAYER.

Shiny, glossy and sleek…the distinguished look of a patent leather shoe! Could it be the way it catches the light or its waterproof durability that makes the shiny shoe such an appealing classic? Whatever the reason, I think most would agree the patent leather pump has long been the traditional selection for accessorizing a woman’s Sunday best.

I can recall getting ready for church on Sunday morning. Grandma, half dressed, put breakfast on the table then disappeared to the back room. Minutes later she would appear from the back fully clothed with a fabulous hat, purse to match and those shiny patent leather shoes! She then, announced…”ok, y’all it’s time to go to CHURCH!”

Classy Shoes

Yes, we all have them; a pair of shoes that just makes you feel good whenever you wear them. They look great and they’re comfortable. Notwithstanding what anyone else thinks, you love them and they represent your core style. Much like these shoes, the Christian woman should possess a quality that defines who you are at the core, it’s called CHARACTER.

Character is defined as the total qualities making up a person’s individuality and moral qualities (or as my grandmother would say, it’s who you are when no one is looking). Being a woman of character and grace is paramount for the Christian single woman. We are called to be set apart, to be salt and light. There should be something different about us not because we are female, but because Christ’s Spirit dwells within us.

White Shoes

Last, but not least, fashion experts consider a basic black pump a staple for every woman’s closet, but for the Christian single woman, a white shoe should be the color of choice. Though unpopular, the Christian single woman has been called to a life of PURITY.

Granted society has glamorized sex so much that living a life of purity seems asinine, but just as having good morals never goes out of style, living a life of purity is always fashionable for the Christian single woman. While sexual purity is critical, real purity is being fully committed to Christ in every area of your life. It can be difficult in today’s society, but with the right focus and dedication, it is indeed possible.

So there you have it ladies, five shoe fashions required for your Christian journey. Best of all, there is no purchase is required because Jesus already paid the price. All you have to do is accept the gift and live the life…a life pleasing to Christ.
