Your Relationship with Christ
Hands down, no ifs ands or buts about it, the most important
relationship in your life is your relationship with Christ! For the
Christian, this relationship should supersede any other relationship
and always be the primary relationship in your life. The reason being,
it lays the framework for all other relationships in your life.
If
you are not a Christian, there is no time like the present to learn
more about Christ and invite Him into your heart and life.
It’s not enough to just know about Him, we must seek to have a
relationship with Christ. One of the questions I’m most often asked, is
“how do you develop a relationship with Christ?” Believe it or not, the
same way you develop relationships with people is the same way you
develop a relationship with God.
Developing a Relationship
Think
back to when you were in school and a boy decided he wanted to develop
a relationship with you. He saw you and he didn’t settle for just
knowing about you. He asked your name, age, grade, etc.
He may
have started by asking friends about you, but eventually he begin to
devise plans to conveniently run into you or somehow be where you just
happened to be. Soon, he began talking to you, making plans to spend
time with you and/or take you out on a date. He told you he thinks of
you often and he did things for you.
Now he could have made up
or imagined things about you, but that would not have been based on the
truth, nor would he have really gotten to know you or enjoy the
benefits of having a relationship with you.
The same is true
with God. Don’t guess or make up stuff about Him, spend time with Him
and develop a fulfilling relationship with Him.
Developing a Relationship with Christ
The
same way that young man pursued you is the way God wants you to pursue
Him. This doesn’t just apply to male female relationships, similar
tasks are undertaken when you develop just about any relationship or
make friends.
Developing a relationship with Christ follows the same path, however
different tools are used.
• You spend time with Him (Prayer)
• You learn His likes and dislikes (Study
the Bible)
• You think about Him (Meditate on His Word)
• You strive to please Him (Obedience)
• You do things for Him (Serve
Others)
To know God is to experience Him. As Henry Blackaby and Claude King
eloquently described in their book Experiencing
God,
“God longs for you to desire Him and His ways. He is at work
reconciling a lost world to Himself through His Son Jesus Christ. God
invites you to be involved with Him. When you experience God working in
and through you, you will come to know Him more fully.”
“Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only
true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” - John 17:3
NIV
Tip: Don’t settle for just knowing about God, get to KNOW God for yourself.
