CSW Book Review:
Lord, I'm Ready to be a Wife

“Lord, I’m Ready to be a Wife” is not just the distressed prayer of practically every single women, it is also the title of the #1 marriage book for single women by Christine Pembleton.  Her goal is clearly reflected in the book’s subtitle, “helping you go from single to married God’s way.” She shares the advice she heeded to transition from a single woman to a wife-in-waiting and ultimately to a wife.

lord i'm ready to be a wifeI’m sure most Christian single women will be able to relate to Christine Pembleton’s story as described in her book. Much like the author, I too had once buried my desire for marriage by throwing myself into ministry activities due to the lack of a meaningful relationship. I also struggled because I thought no one could possibly understand my plight.

While I was shocked by the uncanny resemblance to my own life, I was pleased to find that her path to marriage began with a spiritual mentor. I’ve mentioned on several occasions how valuable a relationship with a spiritual mentor can be, so the author just provides further confirmation of this fact.

In fact, the book is written from the perspective of a mentor. Each chapter is filled with great tips from someone who seems to be one of us. The author does not talk down to us, but gently guides us down a path that has been proven successful for her.

If you are blinded by singleness, you won’t be after reading this book. The practical principles conveyed by the author should help jumpstart you right into action. None of that so-called sage advice like, “it’s not good for man (or woman) to be alone” or "don’t get married" talk we usually get from well-intentioned Christians or friends. This book contains real advice that we can actually apply to our lives to help us on our quest to becoming a wife.

Here are a few key lessons I learned from Lord, I’m Ready to be a Wife:

  • What it means to be a wife

  • How to recognize a good man

  • Why you need a purpose in marriage

  • How to have the mindset of a wife

  • How to become an expert in identifying favorable qualities in a mate

  • The most valuable lesson singleness teaches that is an absolute necessity in marriage

TIP

“Think like a wife, but wait until you’re married to act like a wife.” – Christine Pembleton

The author also highlights biblical stories that contain important lessons on Christian marriage preparation as well as practical advice for each stage of your journey. From single and dating to engagement and being married, Christine Pembleton teaches single women how to transition from singleness to having a wife mindset then from being “a wife” to “his wife.”

Seemingly effortlessly, the author shares how to change your marital status. Unlike many married women, she not only remembers what it’s like to desperately want to be married, but she seems to truly have a heart to help single women become what they’ve always wanted to be…a wife!
