Lady in Waiting

Waiting can be hard to do, especially when you know what you want but it somehow just seems to escape your grasp. Waiting can become a nuisance, an annoyance and unbelievably frustrating, especially when we don’t understand why you must wait. That’s how many singles feel as it relates to marriage, how much longer must I wait?

But I’ve come to realize and trust that God knows best so there must be something to this “waiting” thing.

“Biblically, waiting is not just something we have to do until we get what we want. Waiting is part of the process of becoming what God wants us to be.” – John Ortberg

Renewed strength, greater dependence on God and preparedness to handle the blessing are all benefits of waiting on God. While we’re waiting God is at work in us and in our situation.

  • “But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31

  • “I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.” - Psalm 27:13-14

  • “But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.” - Micah 7:7

  • “Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for You.” – Psalm 25:21

Who are You Waiting On?

In each of these scriptures above, the reference to wait is to look forward with assurance or with an expectant attitude, so you see when God instructs us to wait He wants us to do so with great anticipation of what He has in store. Waiting allows God to develop our faith and character and draw us closer to Him.

TIP

Ultimate fulfillment is not found in marriage, it’s found in Christ.

So the issue we must clarify in our hearts and minds is who we’re waiting on. You see we’re not waiting on Mr. Right to come and sweep us off our feet, we’re waiting on the all-wise and all-knowing God to bring together what no man can separate.

“Waiting time is not wasted time. Difficult time. Painful time. Frustrating time. But not wasted time. God has you where He wants you. He is using your current circumstances to position and prepare you to accomplish His vision for your life.” - Andy Stanley

Remind yourself who you’re waiting on. Waiting on God may not be easy, but it will be worth it.
