CSW Book Review:
Find Your Strongest Life

find your strongest lifeFind Your Strongest Life is a book about what we as women can do to live our best life. I must admit when I initially received a copy of this book, my initial thought was “what can a man tell me about developing my strongest life as a woman?” Well surprisingly enough, quite a bit.

From the very beginning, the author starts with myths that are quite prevalent among women and proceeds to dispel them as you progress through the book. I also really enjoyed the individual stories that were included because they helped to make the information more relatable.

Unfortunately many of us try to be all things to all people, but this book helps to clearly explain why that is a fool’s game that only drains you both physically and mentally. Another thing that is very common among women is the desire to have it all. However, what I like about this book is that having it all is not discouraged per se, but rather the author clarifies that having it all doesn’t mean we must have it all at once.

While overall I enjoyed the book and found it very helpful, I did not like that the book at times felt very stereotypical. Also, some of the initial chapters seem to get mired in details and delay your journey to the meat of the book where you are provided practical examples and tactics for finding your strongest life.

Bottom line this book does a great job of identifying the path for discovering your strong moments, which ultimately lead to the discovery of the role you were born to play. Though there were many, I think the greatest lesson from this book is the idea of listening to yourself…your emotions, your core and then doing more of the things that you ultimately find fulfilling.

The shear practice of recognizing actions, situations, or circumstances that make you feel good and whole to your core should be a welcome change for many women. These are the things that strengthen us and subsequently, these are the things we should be pursuing and seeking to do more of in order to lead a more fulfilling life.

After reading this book, I took the opportunity to sit down and evaluate all my activities and realized that the majority of the things I was involved in (albeit good) were primarily for other people and not for me. I didn’t thoroughly enjoy many of the activities because deep down I really felt like I had been roped into it and was simply performing out of obligation. While my effort was acceptable, in my heart I knew I wasn’t giving my best.

In addition to doing things out of obligation I also realized that I was overwhelmed because I had taken on way too much. And again, not because it was something I really wanted to do, but simply because I was asked to help out in some way. In many instances this often turned into leading the effort.

I cannot yet say that those days are completely behind me because it is a process, but what I can say is that I am working through which responsibilities bring me the greatest joy and which can be alleviated. There is nothing like fulfillment and joy in life and I for one want to thank Marcus Buckingham for putting me on the path to help me discover my strongest life.

This is a journey we should all be on, so get your copy of Find Your Strongest Life to get started now.
