What is your greatest fear? Go ahead admit it…now imagine overcoming it! That’s the premise of Max Lucado’s latest book, Fearless.
In it he accurately depicts the fears that so easily grip many of us today. From the economy to terrorism to the swine flu to that lingering singleness bug that just won’t seem to go away there is enough to make even the best of us have cause for concern, thanks in large part to the media.
Despite all the discussion of just about every fear known to man, in true Max fashion he doesn’t leave you there. Though each chapter describes an object of fear, he also provides stories, antidotes and scripture to reassure the reader of God’s grace and sovereignty. In fact, if I had to pick one word that best describes Max’s latest book it would be REASSURANCE!
Remember that everything in your life is God filtered (God sent or God allowed, either way He will use it for your good).
Much like the iPhone’s slogan, “there’s an app for that”, no matter your fear, God’s got an app for that (application of His Word). Chapter after chapter, the reader is left reassured that God is still God and even that fear can be overcome with Him. Just cast your cares on Him.
The good news is you don’t have to lay out the welcome mat for fear. You have the ability to kick fear to the curb. Most Christians intuitively know that faith and fear cannot co-exist even if we don’t live out this fact.
However, fear and happiness also cannot co-exist. I like how Max conveys this fact. “Oversize and rude, fear is unwilling to share the heart with happiness. Happiness complies and leaves.” Though fear is a bully, you ultimately have the power to choose which will reside in your heart. Rather than back down to fear, remind him who your Father, Big Brother and Best Friend just happens to be.
Max Lucado asks, can you imagine living your life without fear? After reading Fearless, I am reassured of the fact that it is possible to live a fearless life. So what’s stopping you? Go ahead, purpose in your heart that you will fear less today than you did yesterday. Trust more, fear less...that’s the path to fearless living.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding.” - Proverbs 3:5
"Courage does not panic, it prays." - Max Lucado
My favorite quote from this book is “Everything will work out in the end. If it’s not working out, it’s not the end.” What an awesome truth!
Jesus paid a high price to give you the life you now enjoy so
honor His sacrifice by the way you live.
Live forgiven, live free, live fearless!
For the most part I enjoyed this book. The overall the message is sound and it is a welcome antidote to all the negativity bombarded at us via the news media. I would definitely recommend this book as it is a much needed message of hope and reassurance.
