Eating Tips for Healthy Living Made Easy
What would be simpler than fresh manna from
heaven each day?
Nothing
required other than to get up each morning and gather the manna that
was sufficient for the day. The Israelites had it made. No shopping, no
reading labels, no decisions to make other than to eat that which had
been provided by God Himself.
Well our ability to eat healthy
requires a bit more effort, but I will share a few tips for healthy
living that is sure to make it easier. Healthy eating, along with
exercise is essential to a
healthy
lifestyle, therefore it is imperative that we make wise
choices about what eat.
Healthy
eating gives your body strength not found in fatty foods or foods
containing artificial additives and preservatives. The story of Daniel
and his friends in Daniel chapter one illustrates this fact.
“Daniel
spoke with the attendant who had been appointed by the chief of staff
to look after Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. “Please test us
for ten days on a diet of vegetables and water”, Daniel said. “At the
end of the ten days, see how we look compared to the other young men
who are eating the king’s food. Then make your decision in light of
what you see.” The attendant agreed to Daniel’s suggestion and tested
them for ten days. At the end of the ten days, Daniel and his three
friends looked healthier and better nourished than the young men who
had been eating the food assigned by the king. So after that, the
attendant fed them only vegetables instead of the food and wine
provided for the others.” - Daniel 1:11-16 NLT
Most of us
know there are many betttnefits to healthy eating, but the world’s
delicacies are so tempting in large part because fast food has become
so convenient. However, eating healthy shouldn’t be overly complicated
or inconvenient. Here are a few tips that I’ve found easy to implement
and incorporate into my daily life.

Practical Eating Tips for Healthy Living:
- Eat fruits, vegetables or nuts for a snack rather than
chips, cookies
or candy
- Incorporate fruits & vegetables into your meals
(i.e. make a
fruit smoothie for breakfast or add fruit to your cereal or oatmeal)
- Eat salads - be creative & experiment with
different natural
ingredients (don’t drown it in salad
dressing)
li>Eat fresh or frozen fruits & vegetables
- Drink plenty of water and drink all natural juices rather
than sodas (I
personally love Odwalla all natural drinks - their Superfood product is
my favorite…hmmm)
- Eat baked, grilled or steamed foods rather than fried foods
- Eat sensible portions
- Don't forget to take your vitamins (a women's multivitamin
is a great supplement to healthy eating)
You
may struggle with this initially, especially if you’ve grown to live
off of french fries. However, just like anything else in life, pray and
ask God to change your desires. (I promise you it works).

Steps to a Healthier You
The USDA Food Pyramid has
long been the suggested nutrition guide which highlights the optimal
daily servings for each food group. However in 2005, the USDA replaced
the one-size fits all pyramid with the
new
My Pyramid to allow users to customize their eating plan.

The recommended food groups (grains, vegetables, fruit, milk (dairy)
and meats) are the same. However rather than providing recommended
daily servings, the new pyramid takes into account your physical
activity in addition to your diet to provide a more individualized
plan.
These
practical eating tips and resources for healthy living should help you
make better healthy eating choices, but remember moderation is the key
to eating healthy. Balance is everything when it comes to healthy
living.
Hopefully it goes without saying but just in case,
don’t drink or smoke. Also stay away from fried, fatty foods. A burger
and fries or pizza every now and then should not derail you, but you
want to make sure that it does not become a way of life.
Don’t forget, healthy eating is just the first step; it should also be
combined with regular exercise.
