Confidence...a necessary accessory for the Christian Single Woman

Not to brag or anything, but I’ve noticed that I’ve been turning quite a few heads lately. I thought nothing of it at first; just maybe it’s my new hairstyle or something. However, when I noticed it was happening when the hair wasn’t cute, at church, at the store, at the gas station, rushing to a meeting, working out, etc., I figured maybe it wasn’t the hair. I mean I change my hair often and my smile has not changed so I was puzzled by this new found attention.

Well being one who needs to know, I decided to ask one of the guys who had asked for my phone number when he called. And I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by his response. CONFIDENCE…he said “you carried yourself with such confidence that I just had to meet you. Once you mentioned you were a Christian, I was hooked.”

While it’s always nice to catch a gentleman’s attention, what’s even better is the freedom I feel to be the woman God has called me to be. No longer am I sad about being single, I am confident in Christ and apparently it shows!

I can recall a few years ago, one of my friend’s husband commenting that I look like I was looking for a man. I denied it, but of course he was right. Two of my closest friends had just gotten married and I just wanted to be in a relationship. Apparently I was sending vibes of desperation. And that should have been evident by the guys that I was attracting. But I digress…

Now I’m not suggesting that we play games because that would be childish. However, I believe Myles Monroe accurately captures this truth in his statement, “you are not ready to be in a relationship until you don’t ‘need’ to be in a relationship.” Carry yourself in such a way that you believe God’s Word is true and you are not willing to compromise one bit of it to be in a relationship.

Now keep in mind that everyone who demands your attention does not deserve your attention. In fact of all the heads I’ve turned lately I’ve only given my phone number to two of them. Of course it would be difficult to detail everything here, but observation and a quick conversation can reveal enough about a person to indicate if this is someone who you wish to know better.

One caution though, confidence is quite different than arrogance. Confidence is the quality of state of being certain, while arrogance is an attitude of superiority. None of us should think more highly of ourselves that we ought (Rom 12:3) but we can be confident in who we are in Christ.

Christian Confidence

Our confidence does not stem from ourselves, but rather the redeeming work of Jesus Christ. When He secured our salvation, He did more than forgive us, God made us members of His family (Eph 2:19). As a result, we are now joint heirs with Christ (Rom 8:17). We were chosen by God (Eph 1:4), cleansed by Christ’s blood (I John 1:7) and we are complete in Him (Col 2:10). And as if that’s not enough to be confident, we are constantly being conformed to the character of Christ (Rom 8:29). Yes, we have many reasons to walk in confidence!

I am confident that what God has for me is for me (including a husband) and He will provide it when I’m ready to receive it and not one moment before. So yeah, this permanent smile on my face stems from having Jesus in my heart and I’m glad that others are noticing!

Go ahead, walk in your confidence and turn some heads!
