Best Break Up Songs: Christian Edition

Since the subject of getting over a break up seemed to resonate with many of you, I wanted to provide more helpful info since it seems that many of us struggle alone. I can remember when I was younger and endured a break up I would listen to sad songs over and over while going through a mild depression trying to get over the jerk that broke my heart. Well I am much older and wiser now, but I still love to listen to music. I have found music can be a mood changer so I decided to create a list of a few songs that are sure to help you get out of your current funk.

This is not your typical list of gloom and doom songs that keep you in saddened bondage. I’m not interested in busting the windows out of your car or hitting you with a brick because I want to honor God in all that I do. Rather I wanted to provide a few of my favorites that have encouraged me and will most certainly uplift your spirit and remind you that tough times don’t last always and joy most certainly comes in the morning!

There are a million songs I could have chosen, but here is my Top 10 list:

10. The Stand by Hillsong United

Let’s start by offering your broken heart back to the One who has proven He can be trusted with such a precious gift; He is also the One who can mend it. (btw I couldn’t have a list of favorites without Hillsong)

9. Praise You In This Storm by Casting Crowns

Although you don’t understand why God has allowed your heart to be broken, He can bring you through this and you can come out victorious just like in the past; you can praise the God who gives and takes away and though your heart is torn, you can praise Him in this storm.

The message of forgiveness is certainly relevant, in order to move forward you must be willing to forgive not only the one who hurt you, but you must also be willing to forgive yourself; so free yourself, forgive and let it go.

7. Have Your Way by Britt Nicole
God allowed it, so He can use it for your good. Allow Him to have His way in your heart and in your life; God never said the road would be easy, but He promised to never leave you; Remember He takes broken things and turn them into beautiful.

6. More Beautiful You by Jonny Diaz

When you question whether or not your good enough, pretty enough or whatever other negative thoughts the enemy attempts to penetrate your mind with, know that there could never be a more beautiful you; there is a man out there who will treat you like the jewel you are.

5. Voice of Truth by Casting Crowns
Stop allowing the enemy to wreak havoc in your mind and stand on the truth of God’s word; the voice of truth most certainly tells you a different story.

4. Before the Morning by Josh Wilson

Dare to believe that pain you’re feeling can’t compare to the joy that’s coming; stop looking backward and look forward to what God has in store for your future.

3. Out of My Hands by Matthew West
Surrender to the idea that you need to understand everything, the need for closure, etc. and accept that it may never come and give it all up to God; no need for you to lose sleep over it when you serve a God who neither sleeps nor slumbers.

2. Whatever You’re Doing by Sanctus Real

Rest in God’s peace and surrender to what He’s doing in you through this situation; change can be good and remember His plans are far greater than yours. Find peace in a God who has promised that He has your best interest at heart.

God knows how much this hurts and He’s gonna help you get through this, the pain isn’t gonna last forever; remember things will only get better and this is gonna make you STRONGER!
