CSW Book Review:
Be A Blessing: 77 Ways to Bless Others

be a blessing

“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.” - Genesis 12:2 KJV)

Looking for a blessing? Try being a blessing. That‘s the premise of Kiesha Easley’s new book entitled Be a Blessing: 77 Ways to Bless Others. She practices what she preaches, as the author of several blogs including Highly Favored, a blog devoted to Christian inspiration and encouragement, she constantly and transparently shares information to bless the lives of others.

She begins this book by highlighting how we are already blessed beyond measure and encourages us not to take many of life’s blessings for granted. With a Master’s degree in English, it is no surprise that she thoroughly defines a blessing by linking today’s meaning to its historic meaning with overarching religious significance.

After adequately defining a blessing, she then shares the benefits of blessings. However, one of my favorite parts of the book is the section on roadblocks. I was not only able to recognize each of them, but received practical information on how to recognize and overcome them. She then closes the book by offering tips as well as suggestions for developing a realistic plan.

If you want to bless others rest assured there are numerous ways to do that which don’t require money and the author provides 77 practical ways for you to do just that. Some you may have done before, but others you may have never considered. However, what you find after reading this book is unspeakable joy that can be found in life’s simplest pleasures and doing something for someone else.

“Give yourselves completely to God – every part of you…to be tools in the hands of God, to be used for his good purposes.” – Romans 6:13b (LB)

So, what’s stopping you? Time, money, etc.? I’m sure we could all come up with excuses as to why we are not actively doing more to bless others, but the truth of the matter is we make time for what we want in life. There are indeed activities in our lives that we can do less of (i.e. television, movies). Also, if we have ever uttered the words “I’m bored”, then that is certainly a sign that you are not doing all that you could be doing?

As Christians we are blessed to be a blessing, so stop making excuses and get out there and bless someone! And if you don’t know where to get started, this book is an easy read that provides 77 ideas to help you get started.
